Tomato ‘Cherokee’ is a long‑time favourite among tomato enthusiasts — and it’s easy to see why. This heirloom beefsteak variety has a delicious, aromatic‑tangy flavour and a wonderfully intriguing colour that sets it apart from the usual reds.

A slow‑growing plant that reaches around 150cm, it produces a good yield despite having relatively few leaves and plenty of flowers. The fruits are large — often up to 400g — round, mostly ribbed and about the size of a hand. They take their time to ripen, with harvests beginning from mid‑August, but the wait is well worth it.

When ripe, the fruits turn a deep purple‑to‑red‑brown, while the shoulders remain olive‑dark green. The flavour is everything you’d hope for in an heirloom: fruity, aromatic, sweet and tangy.
