Sweet Marjoram is a beautifully aromatic member of the oregano family, sharing a similar flavour but with a softer, sweeter finish. It forms a shrubby, tender perennial with wiry red‑brown stems and downy grey‑green leaves, thriving best in full sun. In very mild areas — or with a little winter protection — it can behave as a perennial, otherwise it’s grown as an annual.
In summer it produces tiny white flowers on clustered spikes, adding a delicate touch to herb beds and borders. Traditionally, sweet marjoram was said to have been created by Aphrodite as a symbol of happiness — a fitting story for such a gentle, uplifting herb.
