Onion ‘Rossa Longa di Firenze’ is a traditional Italian torpedo‑shaped red onion, producing generous bulbs with a deep purple‑red colour and excellent flavour. It’s a beautiful heritage type that brings something a little different to the veg patch, both in looks and in the kitchen.
To ensure a strong crop, plants need to be growing well by late spring, as bulb formation is triggered by lengthening days — the more leaves they have at this stage, the better the final bulbs will be. Early sowings from December to March can be made indoors to give plants a good head start.
