Kale ‘Nero di Toscana’ forms tall, elegant plants with deeply savoyed, strap‑like leaves in a rich, dark green. Its excellent winter hardiness makes it an invaluable crop from winter into spring, just when fresh garden produce is at its scarcest. Harvested young, the leaves also make a brilliant baby‑leaf ingredient, adding texture and a gentle peppery bite to mixed salads.
Plants reach around 90cm tall and 60cm across, creating a striking presence in the veg patch as well as a steady supply of nutritious leaves.
Companion planting tip: grow kale alongside nasturtiums to help draw cabbage white butterflies away from your crop, and plant mint nearby to help deter flea beetles.
