Cucumber ‘Wisconsin SMR‑58’: A brilliant old variety Wisconsin SMR‑58 is one of the easiest and most reliable cucumbers you can grow, especially if you’re after crisp, flavour‑packed fruits for pickling or popping in a lunch box.
This pretty vigorous vine produces heavy yields of small, dark‑green cucumbers with a sweet crunch and excellent texture. Fruits typically reach 12–15cm, with a few large, well‑spaced warts and a classic pickling shape. They mature early too, usually in 50–58 days, with the first harvests beginning around mid‑July.
Hardy, productive and known for its strong disease resistance, given where it was first developed this should be a favourite in northern gardens where it will grow well. A great choice for anyone wanting a dependable, no‑nonsense crop. Perfect for pickling, marinating or eating fresh.
