Jalapeño
Standard pack: 15 seeds
A prolific, upright chilli that produces glossy green fruits which ripen to a rich red, with a Scoville rating of around 2,500–5,000. The heat is punchy but approachable, making it one of the most versatile chillies for everyday cooking.
As easy to grow as tomatoes, jalapeños enjoy warmth, regular watering and a steady feed once flowering begins. They can be grown outdoors in a sheltered, sunny spot, but you’ll get the best yields in a greenhouse or polytunnel where temperatures stay consistently warm.
In the kitchen, jalapeños are incredibly flexible — delicious raw in salads and salsas, but equally good stuffed, roasted, pickled or added to sauces. Harvest green for a fresher, sharper flavour, or wait for full red maturity for a sweeter, deeper heat.
