Bergamot (Wild Bergamot / Bee Balm)

Approx. 50 seeds.

A beautifully aromatic perennial that bridges the gap between herbs and ornamentals. Wild Bergamot produces long, slender stems topped with soft, frilly blooms that bees adore, while the foliage offers a gentle herbal flavour perfect for teas. Harvest when stems are long enough to pick: simply pinch off outer stems and leaves, leaving plenty for continued growth. Fresh or dried, the leaves make a soothing herbal infusion.

Plants reach around 1m tall and thrive in full sun. Sow 5mm deep and cover lightly; germination takes 14–28 days. Bergamot dislikes soils that are extremely dry or prone to waterlogging, but grows reliably in ordinary garden soil with good drainage. A lovely perennial for pollinator borders, herb gardens and summer colour.
