Aubergine ‘Long Purple’

Approx. 50 seeds.

A classic, reliable aubergine variety producing long, slender, deep‑purple fruits with glossy skins and tender flesh. ‘Long Purple’ is well‑suited to UK growers, cropping earlier than many modern hybrids and performing beautifully in greenhouses, polytunnels and warm, sheltered patios. Plants are compact, productive and full of character, with pretty lilac flowers that pollinators adore.

Sow indoors in late winter or early spring with gentle warmth. Aubergines need consistent heat to germinate and steady warmth to grow well, so keep seedlings cosy and bright. Pot on as they grow, then plant into large containers or greenhouse beds once nights are reliably mild. Feed regularly, water evenly and support the stems as fruits develop. Harvest when the skins are glossy and the fruits feel firm.
