Aquilegia ‘Barlow Mix’
Standard pack: 200 seeds.
One of the most exceptional double forms of Aquilegia, producing fully double, spurless flowers in a beautiful range of colours. With a graceful upright habit, plants reach around 80cm in flower and carry many stems of nodding, almost spherical blooms measuring 2–3cm across.
These uniform, reliable plants flower well from their first year, producing three to five stems initially and up to ten in their second season. The mix includes a full spectrum of colours — Blue Barlow, Black Barlow, White Barlow, Bordeaux Barlow, Rose Barlow, Nora Barlow and Christa Barlow — each bringing its own charm to borders and cutting gardens.
Nora Barlow is a particular favourite of mine, not just for her layered, old‑fashioned beauty, but because she shares her name with my granddaughter. Christa Barlow is the newest addition to the series, with fully double purple flowers tipped in white — a lovely sister variety to Nora Barlow. Both produce elegant, nodding blooms above lacy grey‑green foliage from late spring into summer.
Aquilegia ‘Barlow Mix’ is superb for cutting and also dries well. It’s ideal for cottage gardens, perennial borders and rock gardens, thriving in sun or part shade and appreciating a little protection in dappled light. Easy to grow, long‑lived and always reliable, it’s a plant that delivers a stunning display year after year.
